Životna premija
Life's Bonus
Another little year has slipped awayand on the pensioner's shoulders come to stay. How many more can pass him by beforethe "LITTLE ANGEL" knocks upon his door,to lead him to the hunting grounds on high,to leave the happy earth and say goodbye? He often asks it as he goes to bed,and something clutches at his heart with dread. He timidly shuts both his eyes up tightand wonders what tomorrow brings to light. To ease a little all his pain tonight, the Lord sends youthful dreams to him, so bright:Oh, wonder, Lord Almighty, can it be?He's up and out of bed, a sight to see!No ache or ailment troubles him one bit,for he is only thirty: think of it!Oh, mother dear, the beauty of such things! He spreads his arms out wide, as though they're wings. From happiness and longing, strong and deep,he soars up to the clouds in one great leap. Then down upon the plain he looks, and — my! —his neighbour Maja there has caught his eye.She spreads her arms and sweetly smiles with glee:"Come, neighbour, hurry, come along to me,so Maja may receive you in her armsand give you earthly paradise's charms."No sooner does he land on Maja's kneeand cry, "My little lamb, so dear to me!",than shouting cuts his bliss off there and then:the postman's brought the pension round again. He wakes up blissful, happiness aglow, for one more day has yet to come and go.For rakija the postman he'll invite,to celebrate his dreams of last night's flight, and stretch these new-found days with all his might;just then comes Granny's breakfast-time invite. This moment suits the pensioner so well:that's what they call LIFE'S BONUS, truth to tell.Dear Lord, a lovely day lies here in store;if only it were so for evermore! His little pension's come in full, all told;now he can play the tycoon, big and bold, enough to pay the bills and charges due, then live in hope until the next comes through.
