Now St Vincent's Day Has Come

Stiglo nam je već i Vincekovo,čokoti se dobrim vinom krstei domaćom delicijom kite,da bi loze bile, rodne, čvrste.

Now St Vincent's Day has come already:vine-stocks christened with good wine, and dressedall about with homemade delicacies,so the vines stand firm and bear their best.

I to vinsko trebat će nam blago,kad ostvare mladi svoje snove.Dođe jesen i vino poteče,slavit ćemo veselo svatove.

And we'll need that wealth of wine, that treasure,when the young ones make their dreams come true.Autumn comes, and wine begins to flow:gladly we will feast the wedding through.

Da bi svadba u veselju bilai tambure glasno će da ječe.Josipu i Doris ovog časa,Ivo želi sad ugodno veče'!

So the wedding may be full of gladness,tamburas will ring out loud and bright.Josip, Doris, at this very hourIvo wishes you a pleasant night!

Translator's note. Vincekovo, St Vincent's Day (22 January), is when Slavonian winegrowers bless the vines: they "christen" them by pouring wine over the stock and hang homemade sausages and other delicacies on them for a fruitful year. Written for Josip and Doris, who were to marry in the autumn.
