The Results of My Trading
Ovaj puta ništa ne prodajem,već rezultat trgovine dajem.
This time I'm selling nothing, not a thing;the results of my trading's what I bring.
Oglase sam preko Burze dao,mnoge stvari tako sam prodao.
I placed my ads, the Burza spread them round,and many things that way new owners found.
U početku, bilo je to prije,peć sam prod'o što ugodno grije.
To start with (this was quite a while before),I sold a stove that warms you to the core.
Jednom momku, bio je bez para,dadoh gume za steku cigara.
One young man had no money, not a cent,so for a carton of smokes the tyres went.
U krumpiru imao sam sreću,za pedeset kuna dadoh vreću.
With spuds I had some luck, I'm glad to tell:at fifty kuna a sack, they went down well.
Piliće je uzela šnaš' Kata,imala je za njih kvočku tada.
The chicks went off to Missus Kata's yard:she had a broody hen to stand on guard.
Mijenjah kupus kod gospođe Mice,za šunkicu njene male gice.
My cabbage went to Mrs Mica, forthe little ham her little piglet bore.
Kozliće sam sa kozom predao,dobra koza, pa mi za njom žao.
I let the kids go with their nanny goat:a good goat; how I miss her bleating note!
Gospi Mari drva sam odnio,sve u njenu šupicu složio.
I carried Mrs Mara's firewood round,and stacked it in her shed, all safe and sound.
Žensku bundu vrjedniju od zlata,za rođendan kupi ženi Mata.
A lady's fur coat, finer far than gold:Mata gave his wife the birthday gift I sold.
Ode sijeno nije ga ni dosta,kukuruza tek tri vreće osta.
The hay has gone, too little for demand;three sacks of maize are all I've got to hand.
Za kolinje komplet sam prodao,a rakijski kazan mi ostao.
I sold the kolinje kit, the complete lot,but I've still got the rakija-making pot.
Otišla je šljivovica moja,ostala je tek litrica koja.
My slivovitz is gone as well, oh dear:there's just a litre, more or less, left here.
Orahe sam prodao do juče',sada nemam za potrebe kuće.
My walnuts sold; by yesterday they went,and none are left for home: the lot is spent.
A kamin sam prodao još prije,kumu Jozi, da mu kuću grije.
And earlier the fireplace was soldto Kum Jozo, to warm his house from cold.
Plamenik je o'š'o, Bogu hvala,pokraj Drave kuća je ostala.
The burner went, thank God, it's off my hands;unsold, the house beside the Drava stands.
Sudoper je kupila snaš' Manda,u salašu pere suđe sada.
The sink's with Missus Manda now; of lateout at her farm she's washing plate on plate.
Krevet snova jučer je kupio,jedan mladić, tek se oženio.
A bed of dreams went yesterday, and whohas bought it? A lad who'd just said "I do".
Za mast kante kupio je Ante,a kacigu moj sinovac Mate.
The cans for lard went off to Ante's shed,the helmet onto nephew Mate's head.
Stevo kupi ženi Rozi poni,pa se selom sad voza i zvoni.
Stevo bought a Poni for Roza, his wife;she rides the village, ringing for dear life!
Za rakiju kupi Dragan bure,a za vino iz Belišća Jure.
Dragan bought a barrel for rakija, fine,and Belišće's Jure took one for wine.
Zamrzivač kupio je Zrinko,televizor iz Baranje Mirko.
Zrinko took the freezer home with glee,and Mirko from Baranja took the TV.
Novog gazdu sad štenci imaju,još dva imam, neka ljudi znaju.
The puppies have a master, new and kind;I still have two, so keep that fact in mind.
I ta dva bih ja nekome dao,samo kad bih dobre ljude znao.
Those two as well I'd give away for free,if I knew good folk who'd have them from me.
Eto, to su moji rezultatii dalje ću ja oglase dati.
Well, those are my results, from first to last,and I'll keep placing ads, just as in the past.
Nek' se dalje kolo Burze kreće,svima puno trgovačke sreće.
Long may the Burza's kolo turn around,and may good trading luck for all abound.
