Priča o Muji i Fati
The Tale of Mujo and Fata
In these lean and needy daysMujo and his Fata wed;work at home was nowhere found, and a heavy life they led.
Ode Mujo u pečalbu.Otvorio zapad vrata.A kod kuće osta plačuć,ucviljena, lijepa Fata.
Mujo went abroad to work:the West had opened wide its gate. And at home, in tears, stayed Fata, lovely, grieving, left to wait.
At the Jericha building siteMujo found a job to do;letters, marks he sent back home, and he thought of Fata too.
Kratko vrijeme nakon toga, prvog sina rodi Fata.
Just a short while after that,Fata bore a first-born boy;she was shining with delight, for the dad would share her joy.
Loneliness, though, poisons souls, youth has longings of its own,and the nights are long and empty:life is sweeter not alone.
Fata, young as young could be,had such dreams, such stormy ones;let her body's love run free, and gave birth to falcon sons.
I prođoše deset ljeta,kući Mujo odlučio,na baušteli u Švabiji,invalidsku zaradio.
Ten years passed, and Mujo reckonedhe'd go home again to stay:on a site in Švabijahe'd earned disability pay.
Stiže Mujo pred kućerak.Izletjela pred njeg' Fata.Lijepo djecu odgojila.Djeca viču: "Ide tata!"
Mujo reached their little house;Fata flew out to his side. She had raised the children nicely."Here comes Daddy!" children cried.
"Whose are all these children, Fata?Tell me, wife, my dearest one:when I left for Germany,of these children there was none."
Umiljato poče Fata:"Ovi dragi sokolovi, vjeruj Mujo svojoj Fati, sve su naši to sinovi."
Sweetly Fata then began:"These dear falcons, every one,Mujo, trust your Fata, dear, each of them is our own son."
"Reći ću ti sve po redu:U Švabiju kad si oš'o,nije bilo zatim dugo, rodio se tvoj sin Tošo."
"I will tell you all in order:when to Švabija you'd flown,it was not so long thereafterTošo came, your very own."
"Then, upon a lovely night,in a dream you came to me;I was left with child, my Mujo, and so Hasan came to be."
"Often I would long for you,and when I could bear no more,God Himself fulfilled my wish:Murat dropped from heaven's door."
"Mujo dear, do you rememberwhen for ages you'd not write?I kept thinking just of you,and so Iso saw the light."
Mujo hears her tender words, how she sets it out, and why;and once he has thought it through, thinks: perhaps she doesn't lie.
"Ha! And when my own are born, kids will fill this house up soon;then at least in kids I'll bericher than any tycoon."
