A Poem for an Unknown Woman!
Ovu pjesmu pišem jednoj ženi,koju prije nikad nisam znao.Njezin život meni je u sjeni,jer je do sad nisam upoznao.
For a woman now this poem I write,one whom I have never known as yet;all her life lay shadowed from my sight,for till now we two had never met.
OVO MI JE ISPRIČALA ŽENA!Težak život dok je bila mala.Prošla mladost, kao tužna sjena,u šesnaestoj već se je udala.
THIS THE WOMAN TOLD ME, HER OWN TALE!Hard the life that as a child she led;youth went by her like a shadow pale,at sixteen already she was wed.
Kad je mladost u ljepoti cvala,prošla ljeta k'o da su u mraku,troje djece Mirjana je dala,a brak njezin lebdio u zraku.
When her youth in beauty bloomed its prime,summers passed as if in darkness drowned;Mirjana bore three children in that time,and her marriage hovered, off the ground.
Još je bila u najljepšem cvijetu,teška bolest Mirjanu je našla.Rasula se dječica po svijetui duševna bol ju tada snašla.
While still blooming in her youthful pride,a grave illness came to Mirjana's door;and her little ones were scattered wide,and her soul then ached down to the core.
Bolni dani teško joj prolaze,nemoćna je u svome hodanju.Strašne boli i mužu dolaze,težak život u bračnome stanju.
Her painful days drag by, so hard to bear;she's feeble now, and helpless in her gait.And dreadful pains her husband too must share:a heavy life within the married state.
Ona ima šezdeset pet ljeta,a njemu je sedamdeset troje.Bivša mladost više im ne cvijeta,obadvoje pate boli svoje.
Her summers now have come to sixty-five,and he has reached his seventy-and-three;no longer does their youthful blossom thrive,both suffer their own pains, both he and she.
Svakog dana bol se s njima druži,teškom mukom Mirjana se kreće.Ružica im kćerka radost pruži,u toj patnji imaju i sreće.
Each day the pain walks with them side by side,Mirjana moves with toil and heavy strain;their daughter Ružica's their joy and pride,and so, in suffering, some joys remain.
