Domoljubne i zavičajne

Petrijevačkim sokacima – himna

Homeland and native region

Through the Lanes of Petrijevci (Anthem)

Hey, if I had raven horsesand a carriage gleaming, then at last I'd see them granted, all my years of dreaming.

I would drive through Petrijevciboth by day and even nightly, greeting all the girls and young wivesin each lane so brightly.

Petrijevci! Even Romans knew it,and they gave the name Mursela to it.And there's one more thing to tell the public:once our village was its own republic!

Krenuo bih Bregovitom, sve do Vetamice,a onda bih Drenovitomošo' dragoj ljubit lice.Prošao bih Kolođvarom,čak u Novo Selo, tamo bi me dočekalo, moje janje bijelo.

I'd set off down Bregovitaand to Vetamica race, then I'd go down Drenovita, there to kiss my darling's face.Through Kolođvar I'd be drivingand to Novo Selo go;there I'd find her waiting for me,my own lamb, as white as snow.

Petrijevci! Even Romans knew it,and they gave the name Mursela to it.And there's one more thing to tell the public:once our village was its own republic!

Out from Mlinska, slow and steady, down the Bikov Sokak way,so I'd reach by eveningmy darling's, there to stay.Through the whole Republic driving, into Fenek arriving;when my soul to peace I'm bringing, let the songs and strings be ringing!

Petrijevci! Even Romans knew it,and they gave the name Mursela to it.And there's one more thing to tell the public:once our village was its own republic!

Translator's note. The song version of the poem above, with a new refrain: music by Goran Ivanović – Lac and Goran Đurković – Maš, arranged by Goran Rusan, performed by Boris Šili. Mursela was the Roman settlement near Petrijevci, which locals proudly call "the Republic".
