Nard Is the Village the Drava Kisses
Na istoku naše Valpovštine,al' od Šaga kratke je daljine.Divno mjesto tu postoji sada,to je selo sadašnjega Narda.
To the east of Valpovo's own land,short the road from Šag, and close at hand,now a lovely place is there to see:Nard, the village as it's come to be.
Dok je Drava svojim tokom tekla,u potaji ona nam je rekla:da protječe kraj dva mala sela,mjesto Midlak pa i Nova Skela.
As the Drava flowed along her bed,in a whisper this is what she said:that she wound past hamlets, two in all,Midlak, Nova Skela, both quite small.
Od Turaka ljudi su bježali,sa tugom su mjesta napuštali.Osamnaestog vijeka se vratili,novo selo NARD su izgradili.
From the Turks the people fled, and theyleft their homes in sorrow and dismay.Then, in seventeen-hundreds, home they came,built a village new, and NARD its name.
Da bi ljudi ovdje opstojali,sa ribarstvom oni se bavili,a kasnije sa osobnim darom,bavili se ljudi sa agrarom.
To survive and make a living here,people lived by fishing, year by year;later, with a knack that was their own,they would till the fields where grain was grown.
I crkvu su sagradili, znajte,tisuću osamsto i petnaeste.Svetoj Kati oltar časno dali,da bi svoju vjeru održali.
And a church they built, you ought to know,eighteen hundred fifteen, long ago.To Saint Catherine, with honour due,they gave the altar, so their faith stayed true.
I djeca se namnožila, znajte,tisuću devetsto i četrnaeste,osnovnu su školu sagradili,maloj djeci da bi znanje dali.
Then the children multiplied, you know,nineteen hundred and fourteen, long ago;then a primary school was built for all,to teach knowledge to the children small.
Idu dani i vrijeme se budi,tu su bili mnogi časni ljudi.Okolo su tvornice nicale,bolji život narodu su dale.
Days went by, and time awoke anew,many honoured people lived here too.Factories sprang up on every side,and a better life they would provide.
Petsto deset stanovnika ima.Nema posla, pa je teško svima.Šest udruga u selu postoji,vrijedno rade svi uloge svoje.
Now five hundred ten live here, all told;jobs are few, it's hard for young and old.Six societies are there, and theyall work hard and play their parts each day.
Al' Narčani napredni su ljudi,svome selu svo bogatstvo nudi.U kulturi i sportu su jaki,sa tim radom tu se bavi svaki.
But the Nard folk always onward press,give their village all that they possess.Strong in culture and in sport they stand,every one of them will lend a hand.
NK "DRAVA" kada igra javno,svojom igrom izdiže se slavno.Sa uspjehom igre se ponosi,svome selu poštovanje nosi.
When NK "Drava" plays a public game,by its play it rises high to fame;proud it is of playing with success,brings its village honour, nothing less.
DVD je osnovan odavno,ponekada on nastupa javno.Stolni tenis klub je časni "DRAVA",svome selu često bude slava.
The fire brigade was founded long ago;now and then it puts on public show.Table tennis club "Drava", of good name,often brings its village pride and fame.
Udruga je ribolovna "ŠARAN",u pecanju on je uvijek slavan.A lovačko društvo "PREPELICA",često puta ulovi i zeca.
There's the anglers' club, "Šaran" by name,and its fishing always wins it fame.And "Prepelica", the hunters' crew,often bags itself a hare or two.
KUD "KOLO" je Nardu društvo slavnopo Hrvatskoj nastupaju javno.Kolo plešu divni folkloraši,a prate ih slavni tamburaši.
KUD "Kolo" is Nard's glory and its fame;all Croatia's stages know its name.Lovely dancers whirl the kolo round,famous tambura players lend their sound.
U Nardu je mnogo tamburaša,divnih cura i čarobnih snaša.Kad Cvetković divnu glazbu svira,ta ljepota u srce me dira.
Nard has tambura players by the score,lovely girls, enchanting wives galore.When Cvetković plays his music fine,then that beauty stirs this heart of mine.
"KOČIJE" su snove ostvarili,svog života slavu ovjenčali,slušateljstvu ljepotu su dali,svoje mjesto svijetu prikazali.
The "Kočije" saw their dreams come true,crowned their lives with glory, as was due,gave to those who listened beauty too,put their village in the whole world's view.
Na tamburi kada cikne žica,odjekuje Slavonska ravnica.Pa i kirvaj uskoro će doći,sad svirajte, vi "ČUVARI NOĆI"!
When the tambura string rings sharp and high,Slavonia's plain resounds in reply.And the church fair soon is on its way,so strike up now, "Čuvari noći", play!
Eh, da nam je malo više para,pristanište sportsko da se stvara.Na području Labov rijeke Drave:to bi onda bile sreće prave.
Eh, if we had money just to spare,a sports marina could be built right thereby Labov, where the Drava's waters flow;then true happiness is what we'd know.
I za Nard bi svo pučanstvo znalo,Narčanima srce bi procvalo.Nek' vas ovaj problem razveseli:od srca vam pjesnik Ivo želi!
