Mi slavimo Valpovačko ljeto

The town of Valpovo is gentle, dear;it decks Slavonia with beauty here.Our VALPOVO SUMMER now begins its run:this time the festival's the forty-fifth one.The twenty-third will be the grand affair,the HNK will start the SUMMER there.So that the celebration's full and true,so many clubs and groups perform there too.

The twenty-sixth, the exhibition's shownfor all of those with talents of their own.And literature this time is going strong:the worthy yearbook's launch will come along.And then another launch, the SUMMER's own,and twenty years that "Poeta" has known.

The firemen's brass band, the DVD's,the majorettes, the youngest club of these.The Honey Days, with malt's fine taste to try,then kulen and the rakija fair close by.When little ones in folk dance take their part,that beauty only children know by heart.The choirs will give a concert for us all:four choirs will bring their beauty to the hall.

It's Sunday, and the merriment's still here,the summer fair is in the park this year.An ECO-ETHNO fair will be on show,with food prepared the way of long ago.And there are many tents set up around,where each one's lovely wares are to be found.All sorts of things inside the tents you'll findfor little ones and grown-ups of each kind.

It's Sunday, five o'clock, and down the waythe horsemen ride along the streets today.With carriages they showed for all to viewhow wedding parties used to travel through.

Then comes the folklore pageant on its way,all sixteen KUDs in beautiful array,to music from young tamburica bands:this is the glorious custom of our lands.

Before the castle, then, the kolo sways;that beauty speaks the festival's own praise.It gives the audience its fill of cheer:that's what the watchers truly wish for here.

Then slowly to the castle yard they go,and dance the kolo sweetly, to and fro,to show the worthy skill they have in hand,that splendid folklore dancing, fine and grand.

After the show, warm greetings they convey;they're glad of their performance here today.They've many towns and places to go through,but come to Valpovo for SUMMER too.

And on the Square of Tomislav the Kingthe "Jovalius band" from Valpovo will sing;to give us all their beauty, now and here,"Kočije" from Nard will play for us to hear.

We'll celebrate the VALPOVO SUMMER here,in Europe, as the forty-sixth this year.May every festival be honoured so,the pride of our own town of Valpovo.

Now into Europe we have made our way,it is our nation's pride and joy today;the KATANČIĆ society, so proud,sings out its ode of thanks to all aloud.
