LJUBAV NEKADA

Love Then

Bilo jednom davnoprošla vječnost cijela.Na grani se mladostidva goluba srela.

Once, so long ago,an age has passed away,on the branch of youthtwo doves met one day.

On joj priča bajke,a ona mu guče: –"Ne mogu bez tebemoj mili mangupće."

He tells her fairy tales, she coos for him alone:"I can't live without you,my rascal, my own!"

"Sunašce moje, slatko moje lućesve najdraže moje!"Ona njemu guče. –

"My sunshine, my sweet,my dear little toy,my dearest, my sweet!"she coos to her boy.

Uz poljupce slatke,on joj nježno tepa:"Anđelčiću mili, maco moj lijepa!"

Amid his sweet kisseshe babbles: "My pretty,my dear little angel,my own little kitty!"

But that happy idyllwas over so fast;all that was so sweetwas soon in the past.

On se sada sjećaprošlosti daleke, nekadašnje ženice:tihe, skromne, meke.

Now he calls to mindthe far-off days gone by,the little wife he had:so quiet, soft and shy.

LJUBAV SADA

Love Now

Sada žena krešei Boga mu skida.Nema dostojanstva, etike ni stida.

Now the wife lets flyand curses him to hell;no dignity, no ethics, and no shame as well.

She no longer says,"Oh, hubby, hello!"She mutters low instead:"To the devil you go!"

When he's coming home,he wonders how she'll speak;right from the door, at him, like a broody hen she'll shriek.

If he's a minute latefrom work, then comes the cry:"Is this a time to come?Where have you been, and why?"

A kada ga ugleda, pogleda ga mrko.

And when she lays eyes on him,she gives him a grim glare;and from that look of hershe's half dead then and there.

I to ga sve podsjetina brak starog strica.Postao je papučar,a žena vještica.

And all this brings to mindhis old uncle's married life:he's turned a henpecked man,and a witch, his wife.
