Četrnaestoga datuma aprila,Skupila se kod Dragana moba,Edukativna to je grupa bila,Da se voće obrezati proba.
On April the fourteenth, to Dragan's, wecame for a moba, neighbours, one and all;an educational group it was to be,to try our hand at pruning, large and small.
Gospon' Franci držao je slovo,O proljetnoj rezidbi voćakaI što ima u voćarstvu novo,Slušala ga pomno grupa đaka.
Mister Franci took the floor and shared his viewson springtime pruning, how it should be done,and what in fruit-growing was the latest news;his pupils listened closely, every one.
Na praksu je on prešao tada,Jednu voćku obrezo' je jako.Grane lete, oh, tako mu jada,Nisam znao da se može tako.
Then on to practice he moved straight away,and pruned one fruit tree hard, cut right on through;the branches flew! Oh, heavens, what dismay!I'd no idea that that is what you do.
Da se reže procvjetalo voće,Mi do sada zbilja nismo znali,Valjda zato bolje rodit hoće,Tom rezidbom poticaj smo dali.
That trees in blossom may be pruned as wellwe truly never knew until today;perhaps they'll bear the better, who can tell:we've spurred them on by pruning in that way.
Kod rezidbe „čepovi“ su važni,Da porastu grane do godineI plodovi da bi bili snažni,Da se duša topi od miline.
In pruning, it's the "stubs" that are the key,so that the branches grow by the next year,and so the fruit be strong as it can be,to make your soul melt with delight and cheer.
Sve savjete mi smo prihvatili,Predavanjem zadovoljni bili,Jabukovu rakiju kušali,O voćarstvu novo naučili.
We took to heart all that he had to say;the lecture left us pleased in every way;we tasted apple rakija as well,and learned new things in fruit-growing that day.
