Two Poets from Two Villages
Divno selo kraj Bosuta,na istoku Slavonije:Rokovci – Andrijaševci,ljepših sela nigdje nije.
Lovely village by the Bosut,in Slavonia's eastern lands:Rokovci – Andrijaševci,finer village nowhere stands.
Na Bosutu most ih veže,složan narod ovog kraja,ovdje ljudi od davninauživaju divnog raja.
On the Bosut a bridge links them,folk in concord, in this land;here, since olden times, the peoplehave had paradise at hand.
U tom selu Šokačkome,imam dragog prijatelja.Piše pjesme, tiska knjige,on je pjesnik kao i ja.
In that Šokac village therelives a friend who's dear to me;he writes poems, prints his books:poet, just as I, is he.
A zove se Smolčić Đuro,znamo se iz davnih dana.Što pišemo pjesme, knjige,to je našoj duši hrana.
And his name is Smolčić Đuro;we go back a long, long way.Writing poems, writing books,is our souls' food every day.
Trinaest knjiga mi imamo,kad napišem iz njih slovai poredam naslovnice,kitica se stvori ova:
